How did Ancestrias come into being and what is its origin?
I will start by quoting one of my favourite authors of recent times, Thomas Moore: ‘The soul not only likes to be surrounded by pictures at home and at work, but it is necessary for it, because the soul can only act in our lives through magic, and talismans are the instruments of magic. There was a time when people seemed to know this secret, because they carved pictures on furniture, tools, cars, doors. Today we have become accustomed to a world dominated by straight lines, stripped of gargoyles, filigree, ornaments and natural motifs. We call this style ‘modern’, but from the magician's point of view it lacks any talismanic power, and is yet another symbol of our failure to maintain enchantment in our daily lives.
Ancestrias is the way we find to materialise that there are objects that have the capacity to remind us of the magic of everyday life, things that become enchanted by what they represent, by the way they were made, by the materials that were used in their elaboration, by the values they evoke, by being unique.
So, is Ancestrias a shop for magical objects? Sure, if we so choose, like every moment of our lives. Gentle reminders of the beauty of the unique, that lives inside our being. An anchor not to forget that re-enchanting the world depends largely on us.
That is why each object we offer has that ‘something’ that makes it special. And all of them were made by artisan hands, taking care of the process and the materials used. Because respect for our own magic begins with the humility of recognising that we live in a sacred world.
